GHEL has joined hands with the Swiss Catalyst Fund, Rural Development Academy (RDA), Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), and the Ministry of Agriculture to implement chilling plant projects aimed at reducing poverty and strengthening the agricultural value chain. This pilot project started in 2015 in Bogura and beside developing Chilling Centre, more that 1800 farmers have been trained from the Agriculture Sector.
These projects fall under GHEL’s broader mission involving agriculture, renewable energy, affordable housing, and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). To improve food preservation in off-grid rural areas, GHEL has introduced solar-powered chilling plants and cold storage solutions. These facilities enable farmers and small traders to store agricultural products for up to 20–25 days, minimizing spoilage and financial loss.
Modern chilling centers are housed in RCC (reinforced cement concrete) buildings that can bear heavy loads. In regions where agro-packaging and seasonal storage are insufficient, these centers offer a vital, long-term solution for food security and economic stability.
