Green Housing and Energy Ltd. (GHEL) has established a partnership with City Bank in 2015 supporting under privileged people in Chadpur those were affected by the river erosion. This collaboration is part of an initiative supported by City Bank, N.A. and its philanthropic arm, City Foundation, aimed at uplifting underprivileged communities across Bangladesh and it was launched and operated by local NGO Association for Under Privileged People(AUP).
Many remote areas in Bangladesh still lack access to electricity and basic living standards. As a result, small business owners and entrepreneurs struggle to grow their ventures. To address this issue, GHEL has distributed 20W and 80W solar panels equipped with 2 to 4 CFL bulbs to help these communities access reliable lighting. This initiative reduces dependence on fossil fuels, lowers the risk of electrical accidents, and mitigates greenhouse gas emissions.
In particular, low-income women benefit significantly, as solar electricity improves their quality of life and economic opportunities. However, challenges such as lack of awareness, limited access to information, and insufficient knowledge about solar technology still exist. High costs, inadequate after-sales service, and lack of monitoring support are also barriers to widespread adoption.
