GHEL has built chilling center of best available technology for vegetable, fish and flower preservation. Technical training is also provided to maintain and smoothly run chilling center.

As post-harvest loss in the agricultural sector of Bangladesh has always been a major problem and currently facing difficulties in meeting the total annual demand. Up to 40% of post-harvest loss of vegetables makes the existing demand-supply gap even more prevalent. There are various reasons behind such high amount of loss; one of them is the unavailability of proper storage facilities for the vegetables, fruits and flowers. In the peak of the production seasons, there are numerous instances of farmers selling the products at an extremely low price or dumping a batch of fresh vegetables, fruits due to a unexpected over-supply of vegetables and fruits at that particular moment in that particular region.

GHEL has taken step towards solving this problem in the vegetable and fruits market. As an need based initiative, GHEL has setup a low cost chilling facility for vegetables and fruits in the Shahjahanpur area of Bogra district. This chilling facility is offering to the farmers and traders as a business service, where the farmers can rent this facility to store their fresh products for 3 to 7 days in case of oversupply. GHEL expects this service will be beneficial not only to the farmers supplying chemical free products of Shahjahanpur helping them to reduce their post-harvest loss and attain fair market price, but also to GHEL to build a successful business services for the farmers and traders in the areas as well.
